Ken-Ichi Takemaru, PhD

Ken-Ichi Takemaru, PhD, is currently a Professor of the Department of Pharmacological Sciences at Stony Brook University on Long Island, NY. He obtained BS in 1992 and MS in 1994 from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology where he worked on bacterial sporulation mechanisms.

He graduated with his PhD from National Institute of Genetics, Japan, in 1997 where he studied transcriptional regulation by coactivators using yeast and in vitro models. He then conducted postdoctoral research on Wnt signaling at the University of Washington from 1997 to 2004 under the supervision of Dr. Randy Moon.

In 2004, he accepted a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at his current Institution and promoted to full Professor in 2019. For the last 18 years, his lab has been studying ciliogenesis and ciliopathies in various organ systems using knockout mouse models.
