The Summer Associate experience is the feeder into our full-time MBA Finance Rotational Program, which is a two-year program consisting of four 6-month rotations across the company upon the MBA graduation. Full-time placements would be done after the program’s completion.

At Pfizer, Marketing is the commercial powerhouse that drives strategy and delivers tactics to healthcare providers, patients, and payers. Marketers are general managers who lead and motivate internal and external cross-functional stakeholders with the shared goal of delivering breakthroughs that change patients’ lives.

The internship as a Summer Associate is the first step to join the Marketing Rotational Program (MRP), which is a two-year talent development program that offers you the opportunity to gain a foundation of experiences and competencies in core marketing areas across therapeutic areas and stakeholder groups to enable and empower your development as a future marketing leader at Pfizer.

As an MRP colleague, you would receive support from start to finish, including:

  • Formal & informal onboarding / training resources
  • Coaching & mentoring from an engaged community
  • Additional guidance through networking opportunities

Some of the projects that MRP Summer Associates have developed are:

  • Developing and launching new sales force promotional materials, including sales training
  • Evaluating feasibility and building business case for new social channel to help support patient education
  • Gathering input from local markets to shape global brand strategy and launch planning

The Strategy & Consulting (S&C) team is part of Business Innovation, which is considered the engine for transformative value creation for patients and for Pfizer. S&C develops holistic business strategies across Corporate, Commercial, and Research & Development (R&D) to enable Pfizer’s purpose-driven growth agenda.

As internal strategy consultants we advance high-impact initiatives that drive growth and are aligned to key priorities, serve as trusted thought partners for the organization, and deliver coordinated recommendations that drive performance and impact.

S&C Summer Associate projects could support the strategy development at the brand, portfolio, country, global or enterprise level.  One of our 2023 Summer Associates evaluated the current and future hemophilia landscape, where their work provided a data-driven foundation and strategic framework from which our business partners were able to disrupt, differentiate, and compete in a rapidly changing set of markets.

Future S&C Summer Associate projects could revolve around questions like:

  • What is the 3-year commercial strategy for our Vaccines portfolio?
  • What factors are critical for the successful launch of certain brand?
  • How could we reduce lag between US and the rest of the world launches to bring our products to patients faster?

At the end of the summer, and considering business needs, high performing S&C Summer Associates will receive a full-time offer to join as a full-time Manager.

The Portfolio & Decision Analysis (PDA) team is also part of Business Innovation and is uniquely positioned within Pfizer to facilitate strategic discussions and advise on tough investment and trade-off decisions for programs within the clinical portfolio. PDA helps guide R&D investment decisions, maximizing pipeline value & enabling Pfizer’s long-term strategy.

The Portfolio Analysis team crafts sound investing criteria for Enterprise-level decision-making and simulate near and long-term portfolio performance and identify drivers for growth. On the other hand, the Decision Analysis team develops business cases for program funding by leading strategic cross-functional exercises with experts across Pfizer and advises leaders on value optimizing investment decisions and key trade-offs.

As a PDA Summer Associate you would cover a broad range of R&D, commercial, and strategic topics that are critical to our business. The PDA Summer Associate projects could include:

  • Partnering with medicine development teams to develop strategic scenarios and evaluate the associated investment economics (e.g., cost, risk, and return) and tradeoffs (pros and cons)
  • Supporting strategic R&D portfolio projects that identify portfolio trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Facilitating the prioritization of projects across the portfolio leveraging key financial and strategic metrics
