Pfizer Global Research & Development

As advances in medical care help more and more people live longer lives, the need for new medicines to keep people healthy continues to grow.

Pfizer researchers and scientists are working to discover and develop new ways to treat and prevent life-threatening and debilitating illnesses like Alzheimer's disease and cancer, as well as to improve wellness and quality of life across a range of therapeutic areas.

Building the World's Premier Biopharmaceutical R&D Organization

With the integration of Pfizer and Wyeth, we continue to build the world's premier biopharmaceutical R&D organization. Together, our aspirations are to deliver unparalleled innovation, the best internal and external science, and industry leading productivity within a vibrant, diverse culture.

Pfizer now has broader and deeper disease area knowledge in our Research Units, increased modality and technology capabilities in our Biotechnology Units, and a new approach that harnesses our combined strengths to find the newest, most innovative and valuable medical solutions.

Our combined organizations have the scale, portfolio, talent and capabilities that we believe will unlock new levels of productivity. Drug discovery requires both disease area and technology expertise. While most in the industry are constrained to primarily focus on one of those dimensions, our new model has the breadth and depth of Research Units and Biotechnology Units across R&D that frees us to realize the power and possibilities of these combinations to deliver high impact medicines for patients.

Pfizer R&D will operate through two divisions: PharmaTherapeutics R&D and BioTherapeutics R&D.

While PharmaTherapeutics will possess the deep scientific excellence and skills associated with delivering small molecule medicines and BioTherapeutics those of delivering large molecule medicines and vaccines, the Research Units and Biotechnology Units housed within each division remain modality agnostic.

  • Research Units: Allergy & Respiratory; Antibacterials; Antivirals; Biocorrection; Cardiovascular Metabolic & Endocrine Diseases; Genitourinary; Inflammation and Immunology; Neuroscience; Oncology; Pain; Tissue Repair; Vaccine Research
  • Biotechnology Units: Center for Integrated Biology & Biotherapeutics; CovX; Indications Discovery; Regenerative Medicine; Rinat; RTC/Coley

These units are tasked with delivering high impact medicines to patients by any and every modality and technology available to them. Their ability to combine their respective knowledge and capabilities will lead to unparalleled innovation that will deliver the future of medicine. As our Research and Biotechnology units progress their portfolios they will also have access to the industry's best supporting scientific services, clinical and development talents.

Licensing and Alliances

At Pfizer, we dedicate ourselves to humanity's quest for longer, healthier, happier lives through innovation in human pharmaceutical and animal health products. And we realize we can't do it alone. That’s why we are committed to working with our partners to identify, develop and commercialize products that will not only bring value to our companies, but more importantly, will improve the lives of patients in need around the world. Together, we can work toward the promise of a healthier world.

Post Marketing Commitments

Post Marketing Commitments (PMCs) are studies conducted to gather additional information about a medicine's safety, efficacy, and optimal use. Sometimes required as a condition for approval or continued marketing of certain medicines, PMCs are agreements made between a company and the FDA either before or after FDA approval is granted.

At Pfizer, we are committed to operating with transparency. That is why we have created an online resource to provide the public with timely and accurate information about our listed U.S. PMCs as well as education on the continued importance of post-marketing research.
